Julie Hayes

As Principal and CEO of JHC, I provide customer solutions, engagement and communications support for utility clients and energy services consultancies focused on demand side management solutions for multifamily, residential, and qualified income customers on the west coast and in the southeast.

My secret sauce is my ability to pull a compelling story out of very complex, technical information and then use that story to engage customers, clients and colleagues in behavior change strategies that result in measurable change.

Customer Solutions

Providing ongoing leadership level support to a utility program administrative software company thru key client management, innovative customer solutions and new product development. Programs and services supported by the platform:

  • Whole Home

  • Low & Moderate income

  • Demand response

  • Virtual assessment

  • WAP & LIHEAP

  • Customer engagement

  • Real-time reporting

Program Design

Led design and implementation of the first strategic energy management (SEM) pilot for multifamily customers across 15 market rate, senior and qualified income properties in the greater Seattle area. Resulted in energy savings, increased customer satisfaction and increased uptake in utility programs.

Stakeholder Engagement

Engaged one of California’s largest affordable housing organizations in a Time of Use education and outreach effort. The project focused on educating upper management and regional staff on how Time of Use pricing works, strategies they could use to reduce energy consumption in common areas during peak pricing hours and providing educational language that property managers could use to educate residents.

Communication Support

Developed engaging reports, facilitated stakeholder working sessions and presented key learnings at conferences for a national energy research organization on behalf of their utility client. The projects focused on facilitating knowledge transfer of demand response projects funded by the California Energy Commission’s EPIC program and innovative new technologies identified by Cal Tech.

Strategic Consulting

Provided a strategic path and resources for a Southern California municipal utility struggling with how to support customers unable to pay their utility bills during the first year of the COVID pandemic. The project consisted of research and recommendations around:

  • Existing local, state, and federal assistance programs

  • Effective strategies deployed by other utilities

  • Customer journey mapping

  • Employee decision tree mapping

  • Collaboration between utility and community action agencies

  • Recommendations for deployment
